The Proposed Orpington TESCO

Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride has welcomed the announcement that the Station Road car park in Orpington will not be closed until after Christmas.

The car park, which is the site of the new Tesco store in Orpington, was transferred to Tesco at the start of November. It was feared that closure and demolition would take place then. However, after raising concerns that this would affect the Christmas trading in the town, Cllr McBride has been assured that the work will now not take place until after the Christmas shopping period.

"This is good news for residents and traders in Orpington," said Cllr McBride. "There has already been a huge disruption with the recent amenity works in the town and the potential closure before Christmas would have affected Christmas trade. I am glad that common sense has prevailed this time," he added.
