Councillor Martin Curry, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Children and Young Persons has called for a central library for Orpington.

Speaking at the November 7th meeting of the Children and Young People Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee, which was considering the future of the Borough's Libraries, Martin put the case for a new, joint use Library, in partnership with Orpington College, to be located in the Walnuts.

"Transport links mean that it is difficult for many children in the Cray Valley to get to Bromley's present central Library" he says, "whereas a Central Library located in the Walnuts, would be easily accesible and would also be close to the sports centre.

"The size of the present Orpington library and its limited range of material needs to be addressed. A partnership with Orpington College would provide an exciting opportunity to better meet the needs of the children and adults of Orpington and the Cray Valley."
