Developer sketch of the Biggin Hill Hotel plan

Liberal Democrat councillors David McBride and Jane Connor joined other councillors in opposing the proposed hundred bed hotel at Biggin Hill airport last Thursday.

The proposal, which would have seen a hotel built on the airport, was rejected by all councillors and opposed by Flightpath and other residents' groups.

Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride spoke in the debate saying that the proposed building would have spoilt the area and the case for such a big hotel had not been proved. "This hotel looked more like a factory or warehouse and would have had a huge effect on the openness of the area," he said. "I am also not convinced that there is a need for such a big hotel and the answers I got when I questioned the applicant's agent on this did nothing to prove the case," he added.
