The Proposed Orpington TESCO

The proposed Orpington Tesco will make millions for Bromley Council

Orpington Liberal Democrat campaigner Helen Rabbatts has made an official request under the Freedom of Information Act, to find out how much money Bromley Council has received from the sale of the Station Road multi-storey car park to Tesco.

"We have been told this information has to remain secret because Tesco consider it 'commercially sensitive'" syas Helen, " but if the contract is signed and sealed, I believe we have the right to know."

Local councillors Jenny Powell and Chris Maines know the figure but are not allowed to divulge the secret sum to the public.

Jenny says; "The decision to sell to Tesco was controversial and Orpington residents should be allowed to know what the benefit is to the Council and be involved in a debate about how the money is spent."
