PLAISTOW & SUNDRIDGE: Park Avenue and Quernmore Road Planning Application - out of character12.00.00am GMT Fri 2nd Dec 2005
An application was made on the 28th October for a major extension to the Westmeria Nursing Home on the junction of Park Avenue and Quernmore Road. This would result in knocking down the neighbouring house and extending the nursing home with an underground car park and new rooms to create a 20 bedroom building 40metres in length (about the length of 8 saloon cars laid end to end). Local campaigner Toby Philpott commented "This extension is totally out of keeping with Park Avenue and Quernmore Road as residential streets and given the number of unique houses in the area." Local campaigner Len Woods added "With large nursing homes already on Burnt Ash Lane and Bromley Hill is this development necessary or is it just another example of the masses of in-fill development happening in Bromley at the moment?" Full details of the plans are available in the Bromley Council Planning Department or from www.bromley.gov.uk, reference number 05/03784. Local Lib Dem campaigners Len Woods and Toby Philpott at the site of the planned development. The Lib Dems say the plans are out of character with the local area.
