Conservatives Out of Touch12.01.00am GMT Mon 24th Oct 2005
Bromley Conservatives have not added any local news to their website since the 21st of April this year - that is 6 months. "It just goes to show that they have no interest in keeping touch with people across Bromley" said Cllr Grace Goodlad, Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson, "It looks like they thought they had the general election in the bag for the three seats in the Borough and haven't bothered to do anything for the intervening 6 months". "I find this incredible when so much has happened that the public wants to know about and hear what their elected representatives are doing on issues such as the environment, civil partnerships, the Youth Service, Woodbrook School, Councillors moving out of the Borough and Waldens Farm to name but a few." "I know how hard it is to keep news going onto a website, but with 40 Councillors I would have thought they could have done far better than this if they wanted to keep in touch with people. Obviously there are other ways of keeping in touch, but in this day and age every organisation uses it's website as a key communication tool, if they are serious about going about their business." Many local people are concerned about decisions being made behind closed doors, and a lack of democracy in the new council structure. Cllr Goodlad says "When elected representatives won't tell the public what they are doing I think that the people are right to be afraid of what is happening, but I can assure you that Liberal Democrat Councillors are doing everything they can to hold this administration to account"
