Duncan Borrowman welcomes Dorset Road decision10.57.53pm GMT Fri 6th Feb 2004
Bexley and Bromley Lib Dem Greater London Assembly candidate Duncan Borrowman has welcomed the news that the Schools Adjudicator has rejected plans, by Conservative controlled Bromley Council, to close Dorset Road Infant School in Mottingham. Duncan Borrowman said; "Local residents elected Conservative councillors last time - but have been let down by the Conservatives. They expected local children to travel to schools in Lewisham, but it is far from clear places were available. Only about half of parents have a car; and as the adjudicator said; ' I do not believe it is realistic to expect parents to make eight bus journeys a day to bring and collect children from school.' The Tory plan to close Dorset Road could not in any way be justified. "I hope now that Bromley Conservatives will work on behalf of local residents - rather than continuously attempting to close local facilities".
