Farnborough Village residents are against demolition of 'The George', accoding to a LibDem survey

Farnborough & Crofton Liberal Democrats Helen Rabbatts and Viv Ross have published a report setting out the findings of their recent survey of Farnborough residents on the future of 'The George' restaurant/public house. Most local residents wish to see the existing building retained and restored.

The results of the survey show that the majority of local residents oppose demolition of the existing building, which lies at the heart of the village. 39% wished to see a pub or restaurant in the existing building, 19% flats in the existing building, and 14% a hotel. Another popular suggestion was to turn the building into a care home for elderly people.

Residents believe removing the car park on the present site will cause problems - 61% thought this would cause major problems.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Helen Rabbatts said ' This site is at the centre of Farnborough Village, and must not be flattened for yet another modern housing development. We wish to see the existing building restored and put to good use'

Viv Ross added 'We are delighted with the huge response to our survey - it shows just how strongly local residents feel about the issue.'
