Charles Kennedy talks to secondary school children

Bromley Borough Liberal Democrats have welcomed the green light given by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for a new secondary school at the Magpie Hall Lane site in Bromley Common.

Lib Dem Leader and Orpington Councillor Chris Maines said; "I am delighted with the announcement. We must push forward quickly now to get the school opened, the borough's children need this school - and they need it quickly. Opening the school will make a massive difference on demand for secondary school places right across the borough."

Lib Dem Prospective Greater London Assembly candidate Duncan Borrowman, who has a a daughter in one of the borough's secondary schools and is a former member of Bromley's Education Committee said; "We have waited far to long for this school. Ken Livingstone's blocking of the school plans in 2002 means he is personally responsible for local children suffering from the lack of places in recent years. If Ken spent more time looking at the needs of boroughs like Bromley, and less time worrying about Zone 1, local children would already be attending the school."
